【摘要】:Vinylchloridemonomeristhestartingmaterialforthemanufactureofpoly(vinylchloride)(PVC),whichisusedextensivelyinconstruction,electronics,packaging,andotherindustries.Thevinylchloridegascanescapeduringmanufacturing,transportation,andpolymerizationstages.Residualmonomercanalsoescapeduringsubsequentfabricationprocesses.Vinylchlorideisatoxicandexplosivehazardousmaterial.Vinylchlorideissuspectedtobeacarcinogenicagent(4).ThepresentOSHAstandardforVCMis1.0ppm(v)witha0.5-ppm(v)actionlevel.Themaximumlengthofoperatorexposureat5ppm(v)is15min.4Themethodismadeselectiveforvinylchloridebychoosingchromatographcolumnsthatwillseparatevinylchloridefromotherorganiccompoundsinthesample.Themethodmeetsthefederalrequirementsformonitoringworkplaceatmospheresinvinylchlorideandpoly(vinylchloride)productionandfabricationprocesses.1.1Thistestmethoddescribesthedeterminationofvinylchloridemonomer(VCM)inworkplaceatmospheresusingamodifiedcharcoaltubemethod(seePracticeD3686).1.2Thisprocedureiscompatiblewithlowflowratepersonalsamplingequipment.Itcanbeusedforpersonnelorstationarymonitoring.Itcannotdetermineinstantaneousfluctuationsinconcentrationtodetectmaximumvalues.Alternativeon-siteprocedures,suchasgaschromatographyorinfraredspectrometry,mustbeusedtomeasurefast-changingconcentrations.1.3Therangeofthistestmethodisfromthelimitofdetectionofapproximately0.01to100ppm.1.4Thesamplingmethodprovidesatime-weightedaveragesample.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Formorespecificprecautionarystatements,seeSection9andNotes2and4.
